Cyrus Chipman (1751-1840) served in the Vermont militia as a private in Captain John Spafford's Company, commanded by Colonel Gideon Warren and later, Colonel Ebenezer Allen. Cyrus Chipman was born in Salisbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut, on December 3, 1751. He married Hannah "Anna" Fitch and they had eleven children. Chipman came to Rochester, Oakland County, Michigan in 1826 where he acquired government land to farm. Cyrus Chipman died September 18, 1840, and is buried in the Mount Avon Cemetery, Rochester, Oakland County, Michigan.
