Ambrose Orvis (1758-1844) served in both the Massachusetts and New Hampshire militia as a private in Companies led by Captains Warriner, Abraham, Williams, and Fox and Regiments commanded by Colonels Sprout and Hall. He was also a musician playing the snare drum for both of George Washington's presidential inaugural ceremonies. Ambrose Orvis was born in Halifax, Windham County, New Hampshire on July 7, 1758. He married Rebecca Galpin and they had three children. He moved to Michigan in 1842. Ambrose Orvis died August 30, 1844, in Wixom, Oakland County, Michigan and is buried in the New Hudson Cemetery in New Hudson, Oakland County, Michigan.
