Honor Your Family’s Veterans is a new program being undertaken by the David W. Elliott Memorial Foundation of Clarkston, Michigan.
The program is intended to not only recognize and support our veterans, but also to increase awareness of the true meaning of Memorial Day, when we honor those members of the U.S. military who have given their lives to protect our liberty and way of life.
The children and grandchildren of veterans can honor their parents and grandparents who served by joining the Sons of the American Legion or the American Legion Auxiliary. The David Elliott Memorial Foundation will subsidize the cost of new memberships in the American legion programs run through the Clarkston American Legion Chief Pontiac Post on Lake Oakland.
The membership drive will begin on Armed Forces Day (May 18, 2024) and end on July 4, 2024, Independence Day.
Of the $25 cost to join the Sons of the American Legion or the $45 to join the American Legion Auxiliary, the Foundation will pay $13 in recognition of the 13 colonies who won independence and formed the USA. Veterans who join the American Legion Chief Pontiac Post between May 18, 2024 and July 4, 2024 will also receive $13 towards their membership fees.
At a time when our country is politically polarized, there are few things more unifying than supporting the veterans who have served and sacrificed to protect our freedoms.
