Liberty Tree Dedication - Independence Fest 2025

28 Jun 2025

The Jeremiah Clark Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) proudly partnered with Independence Township to bring a living symbol of American history to the heart of the community — a Liberty Tree. This inspiring project was part of the national SAR Liberty Tree Project, a patriotic initiative dedicated to planting trees that commemorate the spirit of freedom and independence.

The chosen site for this historic planting was Clintonwood Park, home to the township’s beloved annual Independence Fest. Each summer, the festival draws residents together for music, food, and family fun — and this year, the dedication of the Liberty Tree added a deeply meaningful and patriotic moment to the celebration.

Members of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Children of the American Revolution all participated in the event, joining township officials to share the history behind the original Liberty Trees — gathering places for patriots during the American Revolution. The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of a color guard in full historic attire, presenting the colors with dignity and pride, followed by the firing of cannons to honor America’s founding generation.

The newly planted Liberty Tree now stands in Clintonwood Park as a lasting reminder of the sacrifices made in the fight for independence and the enduring values of liberty and community. It will grow for generations to come, offering shade, beauty, and a tangible connection to America’s founding ideals. As the crowd cheered and the echo of cannon fire faded, it was clear this was more than just planting a tree — it was planting a piece of history.
