At our chapter meeting in March of 2024 many members were in attendance as well as some guests. Rod Wilson was presented with the Distinguished Chapter Service Medal for his hardwork and dedication helping to establish the Jeremiah Clark Chapter.
The Jeremiah Clark Chapter had a surprise guest during our March chapter meeting. To our surprise Bill Holmes introduced himself as a descendant of Jeremiah Clark. He happened to be the first male descendant to join one of our chapter meetings. We look forward to him becoming an active member. Bill has a passion for the history of the Clark family. Below is a summary of how he came to find out about our chapter.
A friend of mine who is a DAR member mentioned the Jeremiah Clark Chapter SAR in Clarkston had formed about a year ago. I reviewed their website which is very informative and interesting so I decided to go to a Tuesday night meeting they mentioned on their website.
I introduced myself at the meeting and presented the story of my ancestors of Clarkston as follows:
My mother, Katherine Clark Klintworth-Holmes was the daughter of Lillian Clark Klintworth. Her father was Charlemagne Clark who was born, raised, educated in Clarkston and continued on to U of M where he graduated with a Law degree in 1872. Their class claim to fame was to have the 1st Woman, Sarah Killgore Wertman to graduate with a law degree with them. He practiced law for a short time and ended up starting a manufacturing company in Detroit in 1885 which still exists today through 4 family generations where I have worked in Troy, MI for the last 33 years. His father Milton H. Clark had a home located at 62 N. Main Street and in 1844 built a Dry goods store named Clark & Sterns also on Main Street. His father Jeremiah III. with Nelson Clark were the early settlers of Clarkston in the 1830's. Jeremiah III father , Jeremiah II came to Clarkston soon after from Shaftsbury , VT where he was a Revolutionary War Soldier at the age of 16 along with his father Jeremiah Clark I.
