Norman Phelps Sr. (1763-1840) served in the Connecticut militia as a private and musician-fifer in Captain Lathran's Company, Colonel Lidgard's Regiment; Captain John's Company, Colonel Latimer's Regiment; and Captain Teannot Wolcut's Company, Colonel Hezekiel Holdridge's Regiment, and General Kunton's Brigade. Norman Phelps Sr. Was born in Hebron, Hartford County, Connecticut on November 8, 1763. He married Sarah Cole and they had eight children. They moved to Michigan in 1840.
