SPADORCIA - Sydney Martin Spadorcia, of Indianapolis, IN and Northport Point, MI, died unexpectedly while on a skiing vacation in Wisconsin. She was 62 years old. Her love for Michigan and family was endless. Born in Grand Rapids, she spent summers at her family's cottage at Northport Point, excelling in what would become three of her lifelong passions-boating, sailing and water-skiing. In addition, she spent time both as a camper and counselor at Camp Bryn Afon in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. In 1964, she graduated from East Grand Rapids High School, before heading west to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. She returned to Grand Rapids to raise her two children, where she became a member of Cannonsburg's National Ski Patrol. She was also active in the Grand Rapids Junior League and as a member of Mayflower Congregational Church. In 1988, she married Jon Spadorcia and moved to Indianapolis. She will be remembered fondly by her friends and family for her loving warmth, uncanny sense of humor, acute sense of detail, intensive holiday planning and immense loyalty. She never knew a cold day; she was always outside enjoying endless walks with her dog, Blue, horseback riding, or snow skiing. Nor did she know cold water, often cajoling her relatives to swim in early summer Lake Michigan waters. In spite of her love for outdoor activities, her most favorite passion was her family. Affectionately referred to as "Mouse" by her grandchildren, Sydney was relentless in her selfless behavior to help with the care of her grandchildren. She truly delighted in helping her children and their families celebrate life. She will be dearly missed by her surviving husband, Jon Spadorcia, Indianapolis, IN; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kathy Behler, Flossmoor, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Jennifer Behler, East Grand Rapids, MI; grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Behler, Flossmoor; Jack and Addison Behler, East Grand Rapids; mother, Anne Goodspeed Lewis, Grand Rapids, MI; sister and brother-in-law, Francie and Mark Olson, Scottsdale, AZ; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Michael Sunich, Tampa, FL; and two nephews. Williamson and Harrison Sunich, Tampa. She was preceded in death by her father, Warren S. Martin.
